Rocco Forte Hotels Wins More Accolades
The Which? Guide to Good Hotels 2005 announced yesterday (23 September) that The Lowry Hotel has picked up an Urban Chic award.
The Guide described The Lowry Hotel thus: "Urban chic that is a class act in this city-centre hotel... what impresses about the interior is the effortless use of space... all suffused with light from the large picture windows. ...for a big hotel, service was excellent with pleasant cheery staff, eager to please." Resolutely independent, The Which? Guide to Good Hotels 2005 accepts no advertising, free stays or payments for inclusion.
Meanwhile, Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report, regarded as the travel industry bible in the United States, has named the Hotel Amigo in Brussels and the Hotel de Russie in Rome as the two best hotels in their respective cities in its 23rd annual survey of the World's Best Hotels, Resorts and Hideaways.
The Hotel de Russie scored enough points to move up seven spots to fourth place in the Top 20 International City Hotels category. In addition, Château de Bagnols near Lyon, was voted one of the top 20 European Resorts and Hideaways.
The annual survey is the oldest and most reliable poll of its kind, with more than 84% of this year's respondents holding the title of President/CEO/Owner/Partner.
These awards follow swift on the heels of the recognition received by The Rocco Forte Collection at the Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Awards held in London on Wednesday 15 September, when The Balmoral in Edinburgh was voted the best UK Hotel for business outside London, with The St David's Hotel & Spa in Cardiff voted next best outside the capital.
The Lowry Hotel in Manchester was also in the top 12, meaning that all of the The Rocco Forte Collection in the UK were highly commended in the business category. The Balmoral was ranked highest for standard and comfort of accommodation, as well as for its ambience and décor, with the St David's Hotel & Spa ranking highest for leisure facilities.
In the European Leisure Hotels Category, Hotel Savoy in Florence ranked sixth and the Hotel de Russie in Rome eighth. Hotel Tresanton, which is owned by Olga Polizzi, Sir Rocco's sister and Rocco Forte Hotel's Director of Design, was voted fifth best UK leisure hotel.
There was at least one Rocco Forte Hotel ranked in the top ten of all the categories in which the hotels could have been entered, giving some indication of the quality of service and surroundings that the discerning Condé Nast Traveller readers who vote for the awards have come to expect when they stay at a Rocco Forte Hotel property. Readers were asked to select the best that the travel world has to offer - from hotels and spas to airlines and airports, with service and value for money being particularly important criteria.
Soon, there will be more hotels in the The Rocco Forte Collection collection vying for awards. Last week, Sir Rocco Forte announced that he was to build a hotel in the German city of Munich. This announcement follows the acquisition of Le Richemond in Geneva on 2 July 2004 and brings the total number of operational and confirmed The Rocco Forte Collection to 15.
